Discover Pisa and Tuscany

The Leaning Tower of Pisa, the icon of the city, is the most famous Italian monument in the world. Together with the cathedral and the baptistery, the tower forms a complex of buildings, described by the poet Gabriele D'Annunzio as a "miracle". For this reason, the piazza where these buildings are located became known as Piazza dei Miracoli. In 1987 it was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Pisa is a mix of open-air museum and lively student town; its university is one of the oldest and most prestigious in Italy. The medieval city centre is lined with churches, porticoes, and numerous restaurants and bars. Pisa’s beauty is also apparent in its bridges, palazzi, and outstanding museums, such as the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo and the Museum of Graphic Arts.

The nearby coast offers beautiful beaches and postcard pretty towns such as Forte dei Marmi and Viareggio, not to mention the famous “Cinque Terre”, five enchanting villages on the Ligurian coast. The picturesque countryside is known for its rolling green hills, cypress and olive trees, and vineyards.
