From Windhoek to the wilderness: holidays in Namibia are unique

Bright reds and browns, bright blue skies - the feeling of having landed in a postcard: Welcome to Namibia. Where sheer endless expanses characterise the landscape, oryx antelopes jump around and the largest cheetah population in the world is at home. Namibia is considered a safe holiday destination with good infrastructure and is ideal for self-drive trips.

Despite its size - around 20 times the size of Switzerland - only around three million people live here. If you really want to take in the diversity of the landscape, the best way to explore the country is by off-road vehicle or small aircraft. And yes, there is a lot to see: the Etosha National Park, for example, which is famous for its wildlife. Or Sandwich Harbour, where the Atlantic Ocean and the Namib Desert meet. And did you know that the dry valley of Sossusvlei is surrounded by gigantic dunes that you can even climb? Holidays in Namibia are an adventure. And at the same time, dreamlike lodges that appear like oases in the middle of nowhere offer space to pause and marvel. Anyone who has ever spent a night in the Namibian desert will understand: The stars are within reach.

Sightseeing in your Namibia holidays

  • Christuskirche in Windhoek
Windhoek, the capital of Namibia, is located in the heart of the country and is the perfect starting point for round trips. Worth seeing in the city itself: Christ Church, the Ink Palace and the Craft Market.
  • Die Dune 45 von unten
At a proud 325 metres high, the ‘Big Daddy’ sand dune even towers over the Eiffel Tower. Too high to climb? Then there's Dune 45, which is ‘only’ 170 metres high. Both are located in the Namib, the oldest desert in the world.
  • Zwei am Boden sitzende Himba-Frauen vor traditionellen Häusern
San, Damara, Himba and Nama - these are just a few of Namibia's many indigenous communities. If you treat them with respect, you will gain deep insights into ancient knowledge, rituals and a life in harmony with nature.
  • Dünen treffen auf das Meer in der Sandwich Harbour in Namibia
Whether dunes, rocky deserts or endless plains - Namibia offers spectacular natural scenery that is unique in its form.
  • Eine Frau mit dem Feldstecher auf Safari im Etosha Nationalpark in Namibia
If you want to experience a safari during your holiday, it is best to visit Etosha National Park and combine this visit with a trip to Botswana. There, the Victoria Falls are a breathtaking natural wonder.
