Fun Galore!

Synonymous with fabulous theme parks, Orlando is likely to be at the top of every child’s holiday destination wish list. But Florida’s fifth-largest city, located in the centre of the Sunshine State, is more than that: firstly, because grown-ups love Orlando’s famous theme parks, too, and, secondly, because beach bliss and the great outdoors are also within close proximity.

When it comes to theme parks, Orlando definitely takes the spotlight. The most famous one is undoubtedly the Walt Disney World Resort: encompassing four theme parks (“Magic Kingdom”, “Epcot“, “Disney’s Hollywood Studios” and “Disney’s Animal Kingdom“), two water parks and a host of hotels, restaurants and shops, it is also the largest entertainment complex in the world.

Terminator, Spiderman or Harry Potter?

Film fans are magically drawn to {{“Universal Studios Florida”}} (one of two theme parks pertaining to the Universal Orlando Resort), where they can enjoy being on movie set replicas of hit TV series and motion pictures, ranging from the computer-animated classic “Shrek” to blockbuster action movies like “Men in Black” and “The Terminator”. The second theme park pertaining to the Universal Orlando Resort is called “Islands of Adventure” and is one of the technologically most advanced parks in the world. Guests of the park visit themed islands and immerse in the world of much-loved fictional heroes, such as Spiderman or Harry Potter.

“SeaWorld” is a combination of theme park and dolphinarium with many other highlights besides dolphins, sea lions and whales on offer. Thanks to Florida’s sub-tropical climate, visits to the park are rarely affected by cold weather.

Ready for nature or for lift-off?

But Orlando is not just a treat for theme park aficionados. The “Ocala National Forest”, located north of Orlando, covers 607 square miles (approx. 1570 km2) and is home to 600 lakes, rivers and springs. Known for its lovely beach, and for serving as the set of the “I Dream of Jeannie” sitcom, the town of Cocoa Beach is approximately 60 miles (100 km) southeast of Orlando.

Action is also provided outside the theme parks – at the famous Daytona International Speedway race track, for instance. Or at Cape Canaveral, on Florida’s east coast, that boasts the world’s most important spaceports, including the Kennedy Space Center. Whether keeping both feet on the ground or looking to experience an adrenaline rush – Orlando has all the ingredients for an unforgettable holiday. ;;; ;;; Combine your stay full of adventures in Orlando with some relaxing days at the beaches around Tampa Bay.
