The most beautiful beaches and bays in and around Bodrum
Anchoring for everyone: Cennet Koyu
This beautiful bay (aka Paradise Bay) is located on the north coast of the Bodrum Peninsula in Göltürkbükü and is a popular stopover for boat tours – in the evening, people gather at the small beach club. The clear, turquoise water is surrounded by dense pine forests, which make swimming here a particularly delightful experience. As it often gets very busy in the afternoon, it is advisable to arrive in the morning to enjoy the idyllic atmosphere in peace.
Chilling in the breeze: Bitez Beach
In Bitez, the beach is flat and the water calm, making it perfect for swimming and activities such as windsurfing. Especially in the afternoon, the wind provides pleasant cooling and attracts windsurfers and parasailers. In addition to sun loungers, comfortable wicker hammocks can also be rented on the beach. A walk through the fragrant citrus groves behind the beach or a visit to the weekly market, where fresh local produce is on offer, is also well worth it.
For families: Ortakent Beach
The popular Ortakent Beach is located about ten kilometres east of Bodrum. The wide, fine sandy beach stretches across a wide coastal arc and offers a magnificent view of the turquoise Aegean Sea. The gently sloping beach is particularly attractive and ideal for families with small children. Beach clubs, restaurants and shops line the lively beach promenade. In addition to sun loungers and parasols, you can also try out water sports such as stand-up paddleboarding or snorkelling.
With glamour: Türkbükü Beach
Türkbükü Beach on the north coast of the Bodrum Peninsula also attracts celebrities and luxury tourists. Surrounded by green hills and crystal clear waters, this beach offers beautiful views of the open sea. Stylish beach bars and upscale restaurants line the bay, where you can end the day with excellent cocktails and atmospheric sunsets. A small fee is charged for access.
Charming with fish: Gümüşlük
The picturesque fishing village of Gümüşlük, half an hour's drive west of Bodrum, is a romantic insider tip for day trips. Although it is not a classic beach resort, the charm of the place is incomparable. Along the small bay, there are numerous cosy taverns with tables right by the water, surrounded by flowering bougainvillea and oleander, with ships and yachts anchored in the distance. Gümüşlük is home to some of the best fish restaurants in the region, which visitors from Istanbul and other parts of the country come here especially to enjoy.
Idyllic retreat: Akvaryum Koyu
Akvaryum Koyu, or ‘Aquarium Bay’, lives up to its name: its turquoise waters are uniquely clear. Even the journey to the bay is an experience in itself – either by boat or via an idyllic walk along the wooded headland of Bitez. The bay itself is unspoilt and rather barren, with a small beach that promises peace and seclusion. You should bring sun protection and food with you, as there are no catering facilities. Snorkelling enthusiasts in particular will get their money's worth here, as the clear, calm waters offer ideal conditions for exploring the colourful underwater world.
Island with choice: Kara Ada
Although its name means ‘Black Island’, Kara Ada (not to be confused with the island of the same name north of Cesme) is a green natural paradise. Covered with coniferous trees, the island at the entrance to the Gulf of Gökova is popular for day trips, with boats returning to Bodrum in the evening so that the island retains its peaceful atmosphere. The back of the island boasts beautiful beaches, especially Poyraz Harbour with its crystal-clear water and sandy seabed. The Adal and Çemperci bays in the north are also worth a visit.
Versatile: Aspat Bay
Between Turgutreis and Bodrum lies Aspat Bay, a quiet sandy beach in the middle of a nature reserve near Akyarlar. The fine-grained sand, lined with palm trees and Mediterranean shrubs, stretches out in front of the azure blue waters of the Aegean Sea. Thanks to its secluded location, the bay is rarely crowded, and sun loungers and lifeguards ensure comfort and safety. The bay is a beautiful starting point for hikes and guided diving tours to the caves and reefs of the region.
For sports enthusiasts: Yahşi Beach
Yahşi Beach on the west coast of the Bodrum Peninsula is not only a beautiful place to relax, but also a hotspot for water sports enthusiasts. The long, sandy beach with crystal clear water offers perfect conditions for sailing, kayaking and windsurfing. Thanks to the calm sea, the beach is ideal for beginners. For adventurers, there is also the opportunity to take diving courses and explore the impressive underwater world of the Aegean Sea. After a day full of activities, cafés and restaurants along the beach promenade invite you to enjoy a well-deserved evening treat.
