In the Heart of the Norwegian Fjords
Tucked away between seven mountains and the sea is the charming town of Bergen, in a protected bay in the southwest of Norway. This port city has a unique atmosphere, a wide range of cultural activities, and brilliant colours. The best way to experience it all is to take a stroll among the historic wooden houses of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Bryggen. This quarter remains the lively centre of the city to this day.
Bergen is ideally situated between Norway’s two largest fjords, the Hardangerfjord and the Sognefjord, that are both excellent destinations for excursions. It is also said that Bergen is the starting point of one of the world’s most beautiful sea voyages. The Norwegian shipping company Hurtigruten sails daily from Bergen along the coast toward the north. Such a cruise can easily be combined with the Edelweiss destination Tromsø, located in the north. There are many more natural treasures waiting to be discovered around Bergen – spectacular national parks, rushing waterfalls, and impressive glaciers.
