Liquids in Hand Baggage

The EU regulations for hand baggage apply in Switzerland and the European Union (EU). Please note, in particular, that liquids are limited to a maximum of 100 ml per container and must fit in a transparent plastic bag with a maximum capacity of 1 litre. Only one plastic bag is permitted per person (with infant/s), which must be presented at the security check

Passengers travelling with infants are permitted to take milk and liquid baby food on board without a transparent plastic bag. In this case, the maximum allowance for liquids in carry-on baggage may exceed. However, the quantity of milk and liquid baby food must be limited to the amount needed for the duration of the flight. Furthermore, they must be shown at the security check.

Duty-Free Items in Your Hand Baggage

Any items purchased at an airport or on board a flight may be carried as hand baggage. Please note that liquid items must be packaged so that they cannot be tampered with. It is also necessary to keep the purchase receipt – as it will need to be shown as evidence of purchase. Passengers with a subsequent connecting flight within the United States must pack any liquid duty-free items in their checked baggage after landing in the USA.

Sharp Items in Your Hand Baggage

Do not include any pointed or sharp-edged objects of more than five centimetres’ length in your hand baggage. The customs authorities at the airport may confiscate the following items: knives (even if the blade is less than five centimetres long), hairpins, nail files, manicure sets, scissors, tweezers, knitting needles.
