Edelweiss Recommendation

With 30 top golf courses, challenging course designs by golf legends and year-round ideal teeing off and weather conditions, the Dominican Republic has quite rightly won the title of "Best Golf Destination of the Caribbean 2020" at the World Golf Awards. South of Punta Cana International Airport are the Dominican Republic's major courses. However, the green fee prices here are also correspondingly. The courses of the all-inclusive resorts at Bávaro Beach north of the airport are cheaper.

Golf History

Punta Cana entices with Caribbean sandy beaches and fantastic golf courses. Most of these are designed by a famous golf course architect and have a spectacular design. Pete Dye, Jack Nicklaus, Tom Fazio and other big names have created outstanding and internationally awarded courses here, where the PGA Tour is a regular guest.

Top Golf Courses in Punta Cana

Teeth of the Dog Golf Course

The most famous square in the Dominican Republic is probably called Teeth of the Dog. It belongs to the luxury resort Casa de Campo, which has a total of three courses and is about 50 minutes by car from the airport. All three courses were designed by the American Pete Dye. He once said about his masterpiece on the rugged rocky coast: "I created eleven holes, God created seven". The course has been among the top 100 in the world for many years.

Punta Espada Golf Club

The modern version of Casa de Campo is called Punta Espada. The resort, which is only about 20 minutes by car from Punta Cana airport, was opened in 2007 and for several years hosted the professionals of the Champions Tour (US seniors). The course was designed by Jack Nicklaus and is in a class of its own in terms of design, views, and maintenance (green fee from USD 295). The Caribbean Sea comes into play on eight holes and in combination with the dazzling white bunker landscapes, this course alone is worth the trip.

Corales Golf Course

Also top of the range is the Corales Golf Club, designed by Tom Fazio and belonging to the Punta Cana Resort & Club. The PGA Tour plays here every March for a prize money of 3 million dollars. Spectacular are especially the holes along the sea (7 to 9 and 16 to 18) where you have to hit directly over thunderous waves and black rock formations. The luxury resort offers a total of 45 holes (Corales and La Cana) and is only a few minutes by car from the airport. For external guests there are few starting times and green fee prices around USD 300.

Kitesurfing in Punta Cana: Playa Blanca

Kiteboarding can also be practiced at Playa Blanca, which is not far from Punta Cana International Airport. Located on the beautiful Playa Blanca beach, the Kite Club Punta Cana kitesurf school offers lessons as well as boards, helmets, kites and booties for rent. Personal items can be stored in a clubhouse locker. Good easterly winds and offshore reefs provide for great waves and ideal kiteboarding conditions.
