Edelweiss recommendation

With roughly half of South America’s golf courses situated on Argentine soil, the land of the gauchos is ideally suited for a golfing holiday. Advance booking of tee times is recommended. When doing so, knowledge of Spanish is helpful as the employees in the golf clubs often do not speak any other language.

Golf history

British railway engineers brought golf to Argentina. The residing Scottish community founded the first local golf club in 1892. It was named “San Andrés GC” in honour of the Royal & Ancient Saint Andrews Golf Club. Within a very short time, almost every important railway station in the country had its own golf club.

Top Golf Courses in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires Golf Club

Opened in 1994, the Buenos Aires Golf Club is a par 72 course situated in a residential zone some fifty minutes from the capital. The club has three 9-hole loops beautifully designed into a park landscape, and also features the only island green in Argentina. Besides serving as the venue of the Argentine Open, the club hosted the EMC Golf World Cup in 2000. The Buenos Aires Golf Club is among the best courses in the country. Golf clubs can be rented on site. But they are in high demand and stock is thus limited. By the way, golf carts are not permitted in the Buenos Aires Golf Club, but golf trolleys are.

Olivos Golf Club

Situated northwest of Buenos Aires, this parkland golf club has three 9-hole loops. The terrain is relatively flat and easy to walk on. Founded in 1926, Olivos has served as the venue of the Argentine Open and is one of the top five courses in Argentina. The 27 holes parkland was designed by architect Luther Koontz on a beautiful piece of land; every shot requires care and precision. Numerous large trees provide for a natural ambience - and the blend of expert design and picturesque setting make Olivos Golf Club a golfing haven.

Chapelco Golf Club

On a round trip through Argentina, a stop at the Chapelco Golf Club in San Martín de los Andes is recommended. This unique 18-hole golf course (par 72) was designed by Jack Nicklaus and Jack Nicklaus II and is particularly impressive with its natural surroundings as well as the snow-covered peaks on the horizon. Golfers will not only enjoy the 7'163 yards, but also the good facilities of the course: driving range, putting green and chipping green, indoor golf, golf courses, clinics and junior school. Those who would prefer to stay right here can stay at the Loi Suites Chapelco Hotel.
