Luleå - the gateway to holidays in Swedish Lapland
Anyone whose eyes light up at the thought of snowshoeing, ice fishing and the Northern Lights will find their holiday happiness in Swedish Lapland. Endless snow-covered expanses, dancing auroras in the clear night sky and the sound of snow crunching underfoot transform the north-east of Sweden into a true winter paradise.
The adventure begins in Luleå: the city lies around 100 kilometres south of the Arctic Circle and offers access to a wealth of activities. Dog sledding, snowmobile tours, fatbike routes across frozen bays or a dip in an ice hole are just the beginning. If you like, you can drive over the ice or hop on an icebreaker. Hikes in national parks or a visit to the sauna with a sea view are also part of the experience. Luleå is also the ideal starting point for winter tours through Swedish Lapland - be it towards the Finnish border or to Kiruna and Abisko, perhaps the best place to see the Northern Lights.
