Cape Verde Islands – diversity under the sun

Escape winter, warm your soul and discover island diversity: holidays in Cape Verde are a real treat for the senses. On the archipelago off West Africa, the sun shines almost every day, the wind blows across the sand dunes, and the attitude to life is as light as Creole music. Nine inhabited islands invite you to explore, each with its own unique rhythm. The mix of African, Portuguese and Brazilian influences shapes everyday life, cuisine and culture. Whether strolling by the sea, dancing capoeira in the capital or enjoying a cafézinho in a pretty café, Cape Verde touches the soul. Those seeking warmth, space and authenticity are sure to find it here.

  • Sal

Sal Island owes its name to the salt industry that flourished here between the 18th and the mid-twentieth century. With its beautiful white sand beaches, pleasantly warm waters and beautiful coral reefs, it offers unique conditions for divers, snorkelers and all surfers.

Despite its volcanic origin, the island is flat and resembles the surface of the moon. It has a warm, tropical dry climate. Besides the paradisiacal beaches, excursions to Murdeira Bay, Rabo de Junco, Joaquim Petinha Bay, Buracona, Ponta Preta as well as the Cave of Love (Gruta do Amor) are worthwhile.

  • São Vicente

If you want to escape the winter, São Vicente is the perfect hideaway. Less well-known than Sal or Boa Vista, but just as diverse: with volcanic trails, wind and waves, underwater worlds and a capital that is home to music and joie de vivre.

In Mindelo, colonial facades meet creative energy, in the footsteps of Cesaria Evora and the feeling of saudade. São Vicente is ideal for anyone who is looking for the real thing and likes to get a little closer to things.

  • Boa Vista

Boa Vista is a bit quieter than Sal and is known by many as the dune island. Dunes and oases, palm trees and miles of dream beaches make up Boa Vista's charm. Due to the warm trade winds, water sports are also very popular here.

The desert of Viana, the fishing village of Spinguera and the plain of Campo da Serra are, besides the beaches of Santa Mónica and Ervatão, the most worth seeing places of the island. And listen to the "Morna", the longing music of Cape Verde, which is heard in many places from late afternoon.

  • Praia

Santiago is a surprise. The largest Cape Verdean island is green, but different - with succulents, acacias and wild mountainous areas such as the Serra Malagueta National Park.

African, Portuguese and Brazilian influences mix in the capital Praia. Capoeira on the streets, funaná in the air, grogue in the bars. If you sit down at a table with a cafézinho, you will quickly realize that life here is loud, colourful and full of stories. And if you are looking for peace and quiet in between, you will find it on the beaches of Quebra Canela and Prainha.
