Edelweiss winter flight schedule with three new holiday destinations

  • Luleå – new destination in Swedish Lapland
  • São Vicente and Praia – two new destinations in Cape Verde
  • Additional capacity and more non-stop flights on long-haul routes

The northern Swedish city of Luleå offers classic Lapland experiences such as the Northern Lights, dog sledding and cross-country skiing – comparable to its Finnish counterpart. However, its location on the frozen sea is unique, allowing for winter activities such as driving on ice or tours on an icebreaker. With its Gammelstad, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and well-developed infrastructure, Luleå is also an ideal starting point for winter tours through Swedish Lapland – whether towards the Finnish border or to Kiruna and Abisko, perhaps the best place to see the Northern Lights.

São Vicente and Praia in Cape Verde

Edelweiss has been flying to the Cape Verde islands of Sal and Boa Vista, famous for their beaches and water sports, for several years. Now, São Vicente and Praia are being added to the list, offering the perfect starting points for island hopping. São Vicente and its neighbouring island of Santo Antão, which are well connected by ferry, are considered nature and hiking paradises. Many round trips in Cape Verde start here and continue across several islands to Sal or Boa Vista. The capital Praia on the island of Santiago is the political and economic centre of Cape Verde. Santiago is considered the most culturally interesting island in the archipelago and offers a variety of insights into history and everyday life. From here, you can also reach the neighbouring island of Fogo with its impressive volcano.

Additional capacity and more non-stop flights on long-haul routes

Thanks to the third and fourth Airbus A350s, there are numerous innovations and enhancements on long-haul routes: Muscat and Salalah in Oman will now be served non-stop from September to May. The trendy destination of Colombo in Sri Lanka will be served non-stop again after a three-year break and will receive a second weekly flight. Frequencies and capacities will also be increased to Punta Cana (now three weekly flights), Puerto Plata, Montego Bay (both two from mid-December), Cape Town (now five) and Phuket (four from January). All flights to the Maldives will now be non-stop.

On short-haul routes, the main focus is on Southern Europe and North Africa: all Canary Islands will receive additional frequencies during the high-demand months: Gran Canaria and Tenerife will now be served up to eleven times a week, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura up to four times a week and La Palma up to twice a week. Bilbao is now on offer throughout the winter, and Palma de Mallorca will be expanded to up to six frequencies. To the east, the popular destinations of Pristina (now up to 14 weekly flights), Skopje (up to four), Split (up to three) and Larnaca (up to eight) will receive additional capacity. Tbilisi in Georgia was added in April and will now be extended into the winter. Catania (Sicily) and Lamezia (Calabria) will be served by several weekly flights throughout the year.

In Morocco, Marrakesh will be served by up to six weekly flights and Agadir by two. In Egypt, Hurghada will be increased to up to 13 weekly flights and Marsa Alam to four. Sharm El Sheikh will be served twice a week, Luxor once, and Giza/Cairo Sphinx will also be served twice a week with a flight schedule optimised for cultural tours.

Destinations in the far north are also being expanded: Evenes/Lofoten will receive a second weekly connection in the second half of winter, and the start of the season for the Finnish destinations Rovaniemi and Ivalo will be brought forward to the beginning of December. Kittilä, Kuusamo, Tromsø and Reykjavik in Iceland will continue to be served. Bristol will now also receive two weekly connections in February in addition to the summer flights, and the number of flights to Edinburgh will be further expanded.

On seasonal routes such as Heraklion, Kalamata, Antalya, Cagliari and Ponta Delgada, the popular autumn season will be extended into November with additional flights.
