Five more Airbus A320neo aircraft for Edelweiss by 2028

  • Three aircraft as replacements and two aircraft for growth
  • Short-haul fleet to grow to a total of 18 aircraft by 2028
  • Greater efficiency, longer range and more flexible deployment options

Edelweiss will add five more Airbus A320neo aircraft to its fleet in 2027 and 2028. The aircraft are currently in service with Austrian Airlines, also a member of the Lufthansa Group. Three aircraft will replace the oldest Airbus A320s in the Edelweiss fleet: HB-IHX, HB-IHY and HB-IHZ, which have been in reliable service for 26 years. Two additional aircraft are planned for growth. This means that Edelweiss will operate a total of 18 short-haul aircraft in future.

Three weeks ago, Edelweiss announced that it would be expanding its short-haul fleet with an Airbus A320 and an Airbus A320neo. This modernisation programme is now being consistently continued.

The Airbus A320neo combines state-of-the-art engine technology from Pratt & Whitney with optimised aerodynamics. New, quieter and more powerful engines and sharklets on the wingtips reduce drag and increase operational efficiency. This enables longer ranges, more economical flight profiles and reliable operations even at airports with shorter runways or in regions with high temperatures. At the same time, passengers benefit from more comfortable cabin furnishings with more storage space.

With the addition of these five aircraft, Edelweiss' short-haul fleet will not only be younger, but also more versatile and powerful. The investment strengthens the airline's position at its Zurich hub, increases operational flexibility across its entire route network and underlines Edelweiss' long-term commitment to sustainable, technology-driven growth – for the benefit of passengers, the environment and competitiveness.
