The Oberalp Pass is the link between Disentis Sedrun in Graubünden and Andermatt in Canton Uri. From now on, anyone who reaches the highest point of the pass road will pass a very special resting bench. A wooden bench in the shape of an aeroplane seat.

Since 2016, the Swiss holiday airline Edelweiss has been naming its aircraft after regions where the queen of the Alpine flowers is native, in keeping with the motto "Where Edelweiss is at home". Edelweiss also grows in the regions of Andermatt and Sedrun. For this reason, an Edelweiss Airbus A320 was christened "Oberalp" in September last year.

As a sign of the partnership, the regions of Andermatt and Sedrun placed an Edelweiss wooden bench in the shape of an aeroplane seat on the Oberalp pass, exactly on the cantonal border between Uri and Graubünden. From it, you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the landscape and the Oberalpsee at over 2,000 metres above sea level. In addition, there is a signpost next to the wooden bench showing the direction and distance to some of the holiday destinations to which the Airbus A320 "Oberalp" flies.

"We are extremely pleased that the regions of Andermatt and Sedrun are being promoted almost all over the world with the Oberalp, the pass road that is so important for us," says Jost Meyer, Vice President of the Andermatt Municipal Council. David Birrer, Chief Operating Officer of Edelweiss, adds: "For me, as a passionate motorbike rider, riding on this pass road is just as inspiring as travelling to one of Edelweiss' many holiday destinations. And on these trips, we get to use our Airbus A320 to make the Oberalp even more famous."

The Airbus A320, HB-JLS, "Oberalp" has been in service since August 2022 and flies to all Edelweiss destinations on short and medium-haul routes.
