How to Book a Flight for Your Child

If you are flying together with your child/children (2 to 11 years old), you can book their flight directly on flyedelweiss.com or through your travel agent. However, if the number of infants (up to 2 years of age) exceeds the number of accompanying adults, or if your child turns 2 between the outbound and return flight, you must book by telephone with our Service Center at +41 848 333 593.

If your child is travelling alone, different regulations apply. Further information on the UM Service can be found at the link below.

A Separate Seat for Your Child

Children between the ages of 2 and 11 travel in their own seat. They are automatically entitled to a seat when the flight is booked.

Infants/babies (0 to 2 years old) are not entitled to their own seat. A special seatbelt is provided to secure the infant on the lap of an adult during the flight. If you prefer to have a separate seat for your baby, this is possible. To do so, please contact our Service Center at +41 (0)848 333 593 or contact your travel agent. Once you have booked a seat at the child fare, your infant can travel in a certified car seat that you provide. Your baby will then sit in their own seat not only during the flight, but also during take-off and landing.

Reserve a Baby Basket

Baby baskets are available for infants in all flight classes on long-haul flights, but only in Business Class for European flights. Please reserve these well in advance as quantities are limited.

Useful information about the baby basket:

Yes, the baby basket is for infants up to 8 months old, with a maximum weight of 11 kg, and a maximum height of 70 cm.

An adult travelling with an infant with a baby basket reservation, as well as all accompanying children (up to 11 years old), receive a complimentary seat reservation.

At least 4 days before departure.   Please book early as the number of baby baskets is limited. We have extra snuggly blankets available for the baby baskets and there are changing tables in the toilets.

Bringing Car Seats and Child Safety Seats on Board

If you’ve booked a seat for your baby or child and have a certified child car seat or restraint system, then simply bring it with you. This is provided that the travel accessory is approved for use on aircrafts. It is therefore essential that you observe the following requirements:

Check the label on the car seat or restraint system (e.g., TÜV certification “For use in aircrafts”, ECE R44/03 or newer serial numbers). Only travel accessories certified by authority are approved for use on board with us. All other travel accessories with integrated reclining features or those installed on the aircraft interior may not be used for safety reasons as well as for the comfort of fellow passengers.

Please note that the car seat or restraint system must be able to fit on the aircraft seat (43x43cm), must be fastened with the lap belt, and does not hinder the seat functionality of fellow passengers. Our cabin crew will be happy to help you install everything properly. Please make sure that your child is properly strapped into their seat. For safety reasons, no car seats or restraint systems are permitted on the A340 aircraft in Business Class.

Here are some examples of approved restraint systems:
