Edelweiss Is Simplifying CO2 Emission Offsetting

Edelweiss is the first airline in Switzerland to integrate voluntary CO2 offsetting into the booking process on its website. Edelweiss passengers can now compensate their CO2 emissions easily and conveniently when paying for their ticket.

In collaboration with the Swiss non-profit organisation myclimate, Edelweiss is providing passengers the option to offset CO2 emissions as an integrated part of the flight booking process. When passengers book their flight at flyedelweiss.com, myclimate will calculate the CO2 emissions arising from the flight and the amount required for CO2 compensation. Passengers can contribute that amount voluntarily with one simple mouse click. The CO2 offset contribution is subsequently paid together with the airfare. The contributions are used to support projects that reduce CO2 emissions. All offset payments and donations made to myclimate are tax deductible in Switzerland.

Innovation promotes passenger awareness

This new and innovative tool makes it easier to compensate for CO2 emissions caused by air travel. It also helps make Edelweiss passengers aware of the CO2 offsetting option. Bernd Bauer, CEO of Edelweiss: “We do a great deal to minimise the environmental impact of our activities. For instance, Edelweiss fully compensates for CO2 emissions caused by our own staff’s business travel. The aim of our latest innovation is to promote passenger awareness about this highly relevant topic as well, and to make CO2 compensation as simple as possible.”

Stephen Neff, CEO of myclimate: “The fact that Edelweiss is the first airline to implement a compensation option for CO2 emissions in the actual booking process is a breakthrough for more effective climate protection worldwide. The many interested and sensitised passengers now have an easy way to assume responsibility for their CO2 emissions.”

Supporting climate protection projects

The CO2 offset contributions made by Edelweiss passengers will be used to support myclimate climate protection projects in developing and emerging countries, as well as in Switzerland. These projects meet the highest quality standards and contribute to achieving the UN‘s Sustainable Development Goals. As well as reducing CO2, all myclimate projects have a positive effect on the social, ecological and economic development in the respective regions.
