How Edelweiss flies into the new year

A new Edelweiss magazine. New menus in Business Class. Expanded lounge offering. Numerous redesigned product elements.

After a two-year break, Edelweiss is once again providing its guests with a magazine. Under the name "edelweiss experience" the most beautiful sides of the world are presented. The first issue starts with the focus region North America: with an exciting story about art in Denver, a travelogue about the East Coast Greenway cycle path, a culinary highlight from Tampa as well as a photo spread about a road trip from Vancouver to Calgary. In addition, the magazine offers exciting brief information and inspiration in all directions on a wide variety of holiday destinations.

New menus in Business Class

Guests in Business Class will be treated to new starters on long-haul flights. There is a choice between roast beef with wasabi potato mousse, parsnip and apple gel and a vegetarian Emmental cheese cream with dried apple chutney and shallot-chive vinaigrette. The cold dishes on the long and short courses have also been revamped. Guests will be served either the Bündner barley salad with Bündnerfleisch (dried beef), vegetable mousse, bread crisps and chive barley vinaigrette or the Ribeli salad (pasta) with pomegranate, cucumber and mint, served with marinated onions, grilled melon and feta cheese.

Extended lounge offer

At airports where lounges are operated, they are available free of charge to Edelweiss Business Class guests and status customers of the frequent flyer programmes Miles&More, Aeroplan and MilagePlus. Depending on the destination, there are numerous amenities such as cool drinks, small snacks, magazines and WiFi access. In addition, Economy Class guests at many airports have the option to purchase lounge access via the Partner Lounge Pass.

Numerous redesigned product elements

The so-called amenity kits (toiletry bags) that guests receive in Business Class have been replaced with new, environmentally friendly products. These include an eye mask, socks and a dental set consisting of a toothbrush and toothpaste. The packaging of the amenity kits is made of cardboard with 70% recycled content. They are made from FSC certified raw materials from sustainable and responsible forestry. The eye mask and socks are made of 100% recycled PET. The toothbrush is made of 35% wheat straw. Also new is a noise-cancelling headphone, which is dispensed in Business Class and contributes to an even more relaxed journey. The headphone bag is made of plastic fished from the sea and recycled in Portugal.

Edelweiss also attaches great importance to environmentally friendly materials for the new children's toys. The youngest guests now receive a sports bag made from 100% recycled PET and a puzzle book made from FSC-certified raw materials. The book contains fun and games, colouring sheets and puzzles. Along with the puzzle book, the children also receive coloured pencils in a cardboard box made from FSC-certified raw materials. For the little ones among the guests, Edelweiss has included the plush marmot Giancarlo in its range. Giancarlo is the Edelweiss mascot.

With the new amenity kits, the reusable bags for the headphones and the children's toys, Edelweiss is underlining its ecologically responsible approach with a future-proof orientation of the inflight product. This orientation supports the existing efforts to avoid waste and foodwaste.

Additional aircraft for an attractive flight program

As already announced, Edelweiss will be adding two additional aircraft to its fleet in 2023. From the beginning of July, an Airbus A340 will cover the high capacity requirements on the North Atlantic routes in particular. The short-haul fleet will also be expanded; from April, an additional Airbus A320 will primarily serve to further improve Edelweiss' services and secure existing capacities during the summer peak. With these additional aircraft, Edelweiss will operate a fleet of 18 aircraft from Zurich this year (13 Airbus A320s and 5 Airbus A340s).
