Sea, Town, Countryside

Corfu is justifiably referred to as “The Green Island”. Greece’s second-largest Ionian island attracts visitors with lovely beaches, historic towns and, most notably, with impressive nature.

The weather on Corfu is fairly balanced by Greek standards. Temperatures are not excessively hot in summer. That, paired with sufficient precipitation, explains why Corfu boasts such an impressive variety of plants. Featuring olive groves, cypresses and a seemingly infinite number of orchids, hikers will find this green oasis hard to resist.

Beach fans and sun worshippers

That said, Corfu’s stunning beaches also offer plenty of spots for sun worshippers and bathing buffs. The gently-shelving pebble beach of Ipsos entices with crystal-clear water. The beach is situated next to a road and thus easy to reach. A quieter alternative is offered in Paleokastritsa that is home to lovely bays, turquoise waters and fine sand beaches. And to add a magical note: if legend is to be believed, women who swims across the Canal d’Amour (French for channel of love) will find true love.

Authentic Greece

A holiday on Corfu should include, at the very least, a one-day excursion to Corfu Town. Known to the locals as “Kerkyra“, the town is imbued with sights worth exploring. According to legend, the two fortresses of this seaport are linked by underground passageways. The main attraction at Saint Spyridon Church are its intricately adorned murals. Despite the evident wealth of historical buildings, the ambience unique to Corfu is really felt when wandering the town’s charming narrow streets where washing is strung from window to window and hung out to dry.
