Getting there

The Val d’Anniviers in the canton of Valais offers a slice of paradise to hiking fans. The best way to get there by train is via Sierre and then continue on by postbus to Zinal from there. The funicular ride from the base station in Zinal up to Alp Sorebois at 7999 feet (2438 m) takes seven minutes.

Experience

There are various circular hikes on offer from Sorebois, including to the Corne de Sorebois summit ‒ with fabulous views of the impressive 148-metre high Moiry Dam and the Moiry Glacier.

Walk to the Edelweiss bench

The Edelweiss bench is situated right next to the Sorebois restaurant, just two minutes from the Sorebois funicular station.

Best view

Stunning views are to be had from the Edelweiss bench, including of the Val d’Anniviers with its glaciers and mountains as high as 13,000 feet (4000 m), and of Mount Besso that towers majestically above the Zinal holiday resort.

Tip

The “Zau Zoura” educational footpath is an opportunity for visitors of all ages to learn about the region’s flora and fauna.

Restaurant / Hotel

Situated in a delightful alpine setting, the holiday resort Zinal offers spectacular nature, abundant opportunities for sports, historical sightseeing and plenty of activities for children. The historic Hôtel-Restaurant Le Besso was built in 1893 and is a choice place to spend the night.
