Cosy and sophisticated: stylish accommodation in and around Luleå
Hotel Amber, comfort in the centre of Luleå
On entering the early 20th-century building, a narrow staircase leads into the entrance area of the small Hotel Amber. Plain colours and warm light define the atmosphere, creating a homely feel. The hotel rooms are based on the following concept: patterned wallpaper, solid wooden floors and subtle light sources, creating the impression of a stylishly-furnished living room.
View over Luleå at the Clarion Hotel Sense
Guests at the Clarion Hotel Sense wake up to views over the bay through large windows. At Restaurant Nine on the 9th floor, the morning begins with a sweeping panorama over the rooftops of Luleå and classic Nordic dishes. If you don’t want to explore the town after your meal, you can relax in the spa area, with its saunas, swimming pool and views of both the snowy harbour in winter and the setting sun in the evening.
Check in at the centrally-located Best Western Plus Savoy
The Best Western Plus Savoy is located on Luleå’s main axis, where shopping streets, the harbour and the railway station meet. The dark façade, angular shapes and voluminous windows ensure a distinctive architectural appearance. Inside, you’ll find the restaurant, which serves as a breakfast room in the morning and a brasserie in the evening. The menu changes seasonally, often including fresh fish from the region. Local beer is always available.
Nights in the treetops at the Tree Hotel
A glass cube glitters in the treetops. A few steps further, a UFO floats amongst the branches. What hangs between the pines is part of the Tree Hotel. The tree houses are located about an hour from Luleå. Each of the seven hotel rooms, which are among the most unusual accommodation in Europe, has a different design. The main building (at ground level) contains the reception, a restaurant and a small sauna.
Floating tranquillity at the Arctic Bath Hotel
In the middle of the Lule River, a round wooden structure seems to be drifting weightlessly. Surrounded by ice or water (depending on the time of year), this is where you’ll find the Arctic Bath wellness area, including an open cold water pool. Overnight hotel guests can either stay in floating cabins with access to the river or in elevated rooms on the shore. The hotel is about an hour’s drive by car from Luleå.
Right in the centre: Quality Hotel Luleå
The Quality Hotel Luleå has stood on the street of Storgatan since the 1970s, right between the pedestrian zone and the port. In the winter, the ice road (Isbanan) starts less than ten minutes away; and in the summer, the boat dock is practically around the corner. Its in-house Restaurant Q serves seasonal dishes, including fish from Norrbotten. And if you want to relax, you can find a small sauna and a swimming pool in the basement.
Silent nights at Sörbyn Lodge
On the edge of a quiet wooded valley near the Råne River, about 45 minutes northeast of Luleå, is Sörbyn Lodge. The premises sprawl across a clearing between pine trees and birch. Guests can choose between hotel rooms and small holiday cabins. The main building has a restaurant and a bar where you can sit by the fireplace, watching the snow fall outside and the Northern Lights illuminate the sky.
Seaside elegance at the Elite Stadshotellet
High ceilings, stone floors, chandeliers: For more than a hundred years, the Elite Stadshotellet has welcomed its guests to a French Renaissance-style hotel. It is located right on the promenade, overlooking the Gulf of Bothnia. The small wellness area offers tranquillity. Breakfast is served in the Kitchen & Table restaurant, and in the evening, Nordic dishes with a twist are on the menu.
Arctic getaway at Arctic Retreat
Situated between high birches on the Råne River, about an hour’s drive from Luleå, is the Arctic Retreat. Scattered across the clearing are three guest cabins, a main lodge and restaurant, a separate lounge and a sauna. If you want, you can climb out of the hot tub directly into the winter snow. In summer, the ice turns into water, making the valley a perfect place for kayaking and fishing trips.
