Edelweiss tip

Rising up the west face of the Teide volcano, Abama Golf is set in a unique location and features some 25,000 palm trees, more than 300 subtropical plant species, white-sand bunkers, 22 lakes linked by waterfalls and unparalleled views of the Atlantic Ocean. The prestigious golf course bears the signature of the late Dave Thomas and is perfectly integrated into the surrounding landscape.

Golf in Tenerife

The largest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife has a surface area of 786 square miles and was created through volcanic activity about twelve million years ago. Temperatures on the island are mild year round and the vegetation is rich and varied. Tenerife is home to nine golf courses, of which six are in the south and three in the north.

Abama Golf

With a peak elevation of approx. 1033 feet (315 m) above sea level and extending to 6858 yards (6271 m), Abama Golf is home to more than 25,000 palm trees, over 300 subtropical plant species, white-sand bunkers and 22 lakes linked by waterfalls. It also offers second-to-none views of the ocean and the surrounding islands, above all from the 18th hole, and is considered one the best golf courses in Spain. The course is well suited to test and surprise golfers, irrespective of their skill level.

The course was created by renowned golf course designer Dave Thomas, who also designed several Ryder Cup and European Tour venues. Abama Golf continues to be one of the greatest achievements in Dave Thomas’ long career of creating professional golf courses.

The large greens provide for an infinite choice of flag positions, which, combined with the wide tee areas at every hole, make the course accessible to players with high handicaps while still offering a challenge even for the most experienced golfer.

Electric golf buggies, equipped with a personal water cooler and a GPS system, provide detailed information about every hole and help to navigate across the ever-changing terrain. The Resort’s 5-star service continues here, with complimentary fresh fruit and a choice of soft drinks served at several tees.

Note should be taken of the strict dress code. T-shirts, jeans, non-collared shirts, bathing suits and tennis shoes are prohibited!

Other golf clubs

Other great golf courses in the area of Abama Golf include Golf Costa Adeje and Buenavista Golf – designed by Severiano Ballesteros. Both feature a unique setup and have some surprises. They are also fantastically situated along the Atlantic coast.

Two tips in closing
