A Region to Suit All Tastes

It is hard to conceive of a finer holiday destination than Dalmatia in Croatia. The region around Split lures with beautiful beaches and mountainous terrain.

The setting couldn’t be more beautiful: the history-steeped town of Split sits on a peninsula that stretches into the Adriatic Sea and is surrounded by mountains. Beach holiday? Of course. Hiking holiday? Naturally. Culture holiday? Any time. Split’s agreeable climate and mostly dry weather are the perfect prerequisites for any sort of holiday.;;; ;;; Split attracts visitors with its abundant sights and attractions, including Diocletian’s Palace, the Riva seafront promenade, ancient Roman columns and buildings, as well as an exciting nightlife scene.

Swimming or hiking – or both

And then there’s Split‘s lavish number of splendid beaches, of which Bacvice is the most popular. Scuba divers will also feel at home with plenty of diving centres in the vicinity. The hinterland is best explored on foot or by jeep or quad safari. Krka National Park contains some beautiful waterfalls and is a particularly popular hiking spot.

Croatia features some lovely campsites, and many have comfortable mobile homes for rental. If time permits, it is worth hiring a car and driving along the Adriatic coast. The gorgeously set town of Dubrovnik, also known as the Pearl of the Adriatic Sea, is roughly three hours’ drive from Split. Situated at the foot of the Biokovo mountain range, the picturesque coastal town of Makarska is less than an hour’s drive from Split and offers some spellbinding countryside.

Island hopping

Croatia is the land of a thousand islands. The waters off its coasts are speckled with boats available for island hopping. Hvar is arguably Croatia’s most well-known island and can be reached from Split by ferry. Judging by the size and type of yachts populating the harbour, Hvar is hugely popular among the jet set. The island of Brač has the highest elevations in the Adriatic Sea and can also be reached by ferry. The peak of Mount Vidova Gora is at 2552 ft. (778 m) and affords breath-taking views of the sea, coast and other islands. And that’s just one of many unforgettable holiday moments!
