Day 6: Back to Las Vegas via Red Rock State Park (3:00 hrs)

A three hours’ drive from Zion through the desert takes us back to civilization. Not quite ready for the flashy concrete jungle, we swing by Red Rock State Park before visiting the Neon Museum around 4 PM. We have booked our tour of this graveyard for decommissioned signs way in advance. The timing is right: In the gentle evening sunlight, we are lucky to capture some retro classics.

The Fremont Street Experience with its light show, old fashioned casinos and outdoor attractions is just blocks away. Night is falling and our trip is slowly coming to an end. We have seen enough of the Strip, so it feels great to spend some time in the true downtown of Las Vegas.

For a convenient departure the next day, we reserved a hotel room near the Las Vegas airport. The Hilton Garden Inn offers large suites, free WiFi and a complimentary shuttle bus to the Las Vegas Strip - and even to the airport. But those who prefer going from the casino straight to the boarding gate are better off staying at one of the iconic hotels along the strip. From the Egyptian inspired Luxor to the Italian Bellagio and the French Paris, the world is at your footsteps.

Day 7: “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas!”

For one final Las Vegas experience, remember this: There is an Elvis (impersonator) somewhere in this town who is ready to get you married. With only one day left before heading home to Switzerland, this is our last chance to tie the knot.

Actually, we are already married. But a “renewal of vows” ceremony with Elvis as a witness is about to get very real: Our cab driver takes us to 619 South Las Vegas Boulevard, the site of Graceland Wedding Chapel. This institution has been around for more than 50 years, and we cannot begin to imagine how many Elvis lookalikes have performed ceremonies here. Our Elvis is quite a showmaster, and in less than 15 minutes, we have walked down the aisle, have confessed each other our eternal love, have danced along to three songs performed live, and have posed for photographs with the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.

We tell ourselves that “what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas”... But now that we have spilled the beans, we might as well share the souvenir photograph from our last night in Sin City!
