Beach time
Party tourists flock to Larnaca in summer when the weather and the mood are as sunny and upbeat as the cocktails served in the beach bars. But sun worshippers won’t be short changed in spring either – and can enjoy the added benefit of a quieter off-season ambience. MacKenzie and Nissi are among the nicest beaches on the island. Protected from the wind by a protruding rock formation, Fig Tree Bay beach is another great spot to visit. Larnaca boasts bikini weather all year round. Still, since water temperatures can drop to below 20° C, beach holidays are best enjoyed between June and October. Winter visitors to Larnaca can look forward to a very special spectacle of nature: each year on their migratory passage through Cyprus, hundreds of pink flamingos visit the Larnaca Salt Lake.
Voyage of discovery
Scuba divers will relish the opportunity for a dive to the MS Zenobia shipwreck. Visibility around the sunken ship is good, and many fish, octopuses and even turtles have relocated their habitat to the wreck. Experienced divers can explore the ship on their own. Those who prefer to stay dry can get to know the island on a donkey – and refuel with a glass of ass’s milk. Cheers!
