Activities for Families in Calgary
The Calgary Zoo
Located east of downtown Calgary, in the Bridgeland area, lies the popular Calgary Zoo. The almost 50-hectare park is home to 130 different animal species and is one of the best zoos in the world highly proclaimed for its animal and environmental research. Through the subdivided areas, visitors are immersed in different worlds such as the "Canadian Wilds", "Penguin Plunge" or "Destination Africa".
Creative Kids Museum
The TELUS Spark Science Centre offers, among other things, an inventive museum for children. The Creative Kids Museum focuses on the playful exploration of music, theatre and visual arts and is aimed at children under nine. Expert-designed developmental activities promote the fine motor and spatial skills of the little ones.
The Paddle Station
Discover Calgary from the river: The Paddle Station rents out kayaks, stand-up paddle boards and rafts. At the starting point in Shouldice Park, the safety equipment is handed out and then the adventurous ride on the Bow River begins. Let yourself drift and enjoy the beautiful city from a different perspective with your children.
Calaway Park
Dizzying roller coasters, carousels for the little ones, and meticulously choreographed shows attract visitors to Calaway Park. It is the largest amusement park in Western Canada and offers varied entertainment for the whole family. Just four kilometres outside of Calgary, there's plenty of fun waiting for you.
Rothney Astrophysical Observatory
This is also an attractive place for families. Calgary university's astronomical research facility is an exceptional observatory dedicated to educating people about the wonders of astronomy. Expand your knowledge of the universe under the stars with your family.
