Sunbathing, surfing, swimming
The pitch-black lava beach of Playa de la Arena is a popular spot for sun-worshippers. Caution: the sand heats up very quickly in summer. The bars and clubs that line the boardwalk of Playa de las Américas offer lots of post-beach entertainment. Wind- and kite-surfers will love el Medano: the site’s favourable wind conditions and easy entry point make it suitable for beginners and experts.
Aquatic fun and shopping bliss
Considered one of the best water parks in the world and boasting a myriad of slides and rides, Siam Park offers copious amounts of fun and excitement for the whole family. Shopping aficionados will find everything they could wish for in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The capital of the eponymous province is also home to popular sights including the Auditorio de Tenerife concert hall.
Dancing on a volcano
A holiday on a volcanic island should, of course, include a closer look at the fire-spitting mountain. Mount Teide is one of the world’s largest island volcanoes. A cable car carries passengers almost to its summit from where spectacular views can be enjoyed. Romantics are advised to visit Teide after sunset, when the starry sky is a particularly stunning sight to behold.
