Fiesta, Flamenco, Football

With an average annual temperature of over 18° C, Seville figures among Europe’s warmest cities. That same warmth is generously exuded by the inhabitants of Andalusia’s magnificent capital city where dance corresponds to a life elixir and fiesta constitutes an integral part of everyday life.

It is hard to conceive of a more picturesque sight: Seville with its abundant towers and palatial buildings offers a feast for the eyes. Mild temperatures, including in winter, allow for plants such as date palms and olive trees to flourish, giving the city its tropical flair. Seville owes its port-city aura to the navigable river of Guadalquivir that runs through the city.

Dance and tapas

The capital of Andalusia is considered the cradle of flamenco, with daily dance performances staged in pubs, in the streets and at festivals. Seville is home to the world’s only flamenco museum, the ”Museo del Baile Flamenco”. It is also said to be the birthplace of tapas which the Spaniards like to serve with a glass of wine or a beer.

Art in the Cathedral

Seville’s landmarks also happen to be UNESCO World Heritage sites. The Cathedral of Santa María de la Sede houses many art treasures. The city’s most impressive buildings are the Alcázar palace complex and the Archivo General de Indias that includes a valuable collection of archival documents related to Spanish history. Feel like going to the seaside and listening to the sound of the waves? You can do just that in Marbella, Málaga or Cádiz which are only a few hours’ drive away.

Football festival at its finest

What would Spain be without football? The La Liga club FC Sevilla has its own radio and TV station, as well as its own newspaper! Whenever the club plays against its local “arch rival”, Real Betis, you can be sure that the entire city will turn out to watch. Because no one wants to miss out on a “Derbi sevillano“. ¡Muy caliente!
